Focus réacteurs à neutrons rapides

Lorsqu’un noyau lourd fissionne après avoir absorbé un neutron, il se scinde en deux ou trois fragments et émet quelques neutrons, qui peuvent à leur tour entraîner d’autres fissions.

Pour exploiter des neutrons rapides, il faut éviter de les ralentir. Or, l’eau utilisée comme fluide caloporteur dans la plupart des réacteurs du monde a comme inconvénient de ralentir les neutrons.
